Product Description

The Xtreme Defender is based on the popular Xtreme Penetrator product line. The XD ammunition has an optimized nose flute, total weight, and velocity to achieve a penetration depth  up to 18 inches* with a permanent wound cavity (PWC) that is just simply enormous; no other expanding hollowpoint comes close to achieving anywhere near this diameter and volume. Not only is the PWC over 100% larger than any other expanding bullet, expansion is achieved despite being shot through barriers. The solid copper body ensures that wallboard, sheet metal, and automotive glass will have no effect on the Permanent Wound Channel.

*Falling within FBI guidelines

This round offers:

  • A permanent wound cavity (PWC)that is 2 times greater than any expanding bullet
  • Reduced recoil.
  • CNC machined from solid copper to overcome barriers to penetration
  • Radial flutes that force the hydraulic energy inward to build pressure
  • Minimal surface area to increase the force at the point of contact and sharp cutting edges that defeat barriers

As with all of Underwood Ammo’s rounds, we utilize flash suppressed powder so that your vision will not be compromised if it becomes necessary to use your firearm in low light.

While taking advantage of our state of the art testing equipment, this high performance ammunition is field tested using popular, real firearms that our customers are most likely to own out in the real world with all the elements you would experience. If for some reason Underwood Ammunition fails to meet performance expectations, we stand by our product 100% and will make sure the customer is satisfied with every purchase.

This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Nickel plated casings with our new nickel plating process provides several key benefits, not limited to but including; improved feeding in all actions of firearms, enhanced corrosion resistance over traditional brass, improved cosmetics, and ease of cleanup during reloading.  Nickel plated casings will not tarnish like brass during storage or when in contact with foreign materials such as leather, moisture, and other metals.

Until the development of the Ducta-Bright 7a process, nickel plating casings often limited the number of reloads as compared to raw brass.  It was claimed that nickel plated brass casings “embrittled” the brass therefor making it less desirable for reloaders despite the ease of cleanup that nickel plating offers.  In addition, ammunition engineers raising concerns of using nickel plating in “very hot” +P or magnum loads found that traditional nickel plating often cracked deep-drawn cases, or worse, lead to a total failure. This new process eliminates any concern, to the shooter or reloader, of hazard or ability to re-use the brass.

As with all of Underwood Ammo’s rounds, we utilize flash suppressed powder so that your vision will not be compromised if it becomes necessary to use your firearm in low light.

  1. ammo test 5 Star Review

Had feeding issues with non-FMJ ammo so bought only one box to test it. No problems. Will buy more in the future.

  2. Ideal Defensive Load 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Nov 2016

I can't add to the praise already written here except to note that I have carried standard JHP duty loads for more than 2 decades. This projectile appears to be the real thing - velocity, barrier performance, penetration, permanent wound cavity, and weight retention without any downsides I can see. Thanks to Underwood and Lehigh for creating/loading it. I'm trusting my life to it. What more can be said?

1700 FPS and Twice The Permanent Wound Cavity Of Any Other Round. Nuff Said!!!

  4. Punches way above it's weight! 5 Star Review

32C with heavy spring, buffer, and it still likes to rock and roll. Wouldn't have it any other way. Well done Gentlemen. This is what I carry.

  5. Toughest 90gr. Bullet that I have ever Shot! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th May 2016

I shot several of the Xtreme Defenders through a Paper Target, 1/4" Wood Target Board, and a 4'x4'x4' Shredded Paper Bale (Essentially Wet-Pack) and the Performance was very surprising! This little Screamn' Demon blew a 2.5"-3" Hole almost completely through the Bale. I only recovered 1 Bullet and it was so intact that I could have almost reloaded it (Not Recommended BTW!!)...Awesome Ammo, and I am extremely pleased! Any Free Samples, send them My Way!?!

  6. Best self defense ammo ever 5 Star Review

It's fast, it dumps energy into target, it is barrier blind and penetrates Windows and car panels with still devastating effects. The current perfect ammo

  7. Devastating Ammo 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Feb 2016

37 years a Chicago Police taught Police for 6 years as a Range Officer. I carry this round in all my carry guns. 380, 9mm and 357 Sig. Great Kinetic energy in these rounds. I was going to test them but I,m retired and they are a little bit pricey to do testing. You won't be disappointed. Feeding was flawless.

  8. Devastating load! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Dec 2015

This stuff performs just like it is supposed to...phenomenal barrier penetration, and devastating permanent cavity in gel. Feeds flawlessly in a G32. A great defense load in a new era when attackers may be wearing body armor. Much higher velocity than the proprietary load. I highly recommend this ammo!

  9. Hot Stuff 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Dec 2015

As a NRA Police Firearms Instructor, the only ammo I buy and carry is Underwood Ammo, Period! I carry 24/7 and want ammo that will do the job. Although I do use it to punch holes in paper, that is not the JOB I am referring to, which is to kill someone who is trying to kill me or some other innocent person. With all the recent mass murders, I'm not playing games with the ammo I carry, and neither should you.

  10. New design 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Nov 2015

It's crazy that advancements can still be made in something as old gas propelled bullets, but I think this may do the trick. I bought the 357 sig XD and shot a 20% ballistics clear block. It's apparently not ideal because of less fluid but I still got interesting results. I had some XTP 357 sig from underwood also, and the PWC were comparable in diameter with the XDefender looking maybe a 1/4 inch longer, but also running along the entirety of the block. I have it for my glock 33 now and I am now interested in what the extent of the capabilities of this design are now. Will it it work in a rifle round? Smaller diameter bullets may be hard to get deep grooves, but I think the velocity will compensate for this nicely. I tried finding more information on what the plans were for this design but haven't received an answer by Lehigh. Hopefully they do. I would recommend this easily.
